Leveraging the Olympic Spirit with a Team GB Client Showcase

With the Olympic Torch Relay on its last leg before the Flame returns to Paris on July 26th for the Opening Ceremony, the Pandas bring you our very own Team GB showcase.

If you’re as famous and as competitive as Team GB, you recognise your responsibility in a world where social impact drives both community wellbeing and organisational success. Team GB is a household name and, true to its brand, it embarked on an ambitious mission to develop and integrate a new social impact strategy. And where better to focus than on improving the health and wellbeing of the nation?

Team GB chose Skating Panda as its partner to deliver, tasking us with creating a relevant, comprehensive and distinctive social impact strategy. After a thorough consultation across the organisation and with partners and stakeholders, working alongside Team GB, Skating Panda developed a Board- and implementation-ready strategy. While the obvious and easy approach would have been to focus on physical performance and world-famous medal winning moments, we needed to go deeper.

Building confidence and developing resilience (the journey we all go on – professional athlete or not) are as if not more important; the Team GB social impact strategy therefore embraces emotional, physical and mental health. The robust theory of change behind the plan and illustrative, and practical examples of strategy delivery at both national and local levels, with deliberate inclusion of under-served groups, make the strategy practical and systemic too.

Stills with thanks to our friends at The Beautiful Truth, from the ‘making of’ film made about our work on Team GB’s social impact strategy.

In just four months, Skating Panda collaboratively developed and tested the strategy with key partners, including the British Olympic Foundation, commercial partners, and external stakeholders.

It’s been a joy to see the plan come to life in real time – with partners engaged and growing their commitment to the brand, with two new flagship charity partnerships – YoungMinds and StreetGames UK, reaching thousands of young people – and stories told across media by our athletes in the run-up to the Games, bringing their journeys to life, making their ups and downs accessible, and inspiring the nation.

Thank you to everyone who made the creation of Team GB’s social impact strategy possible and to the dedicated teams at Team GB and beyond who are continuing to work tirelessly to make it a reality and build a resilient nation.
